Join With Us in Protecting the Kaibab Squirrel

Squirrel

Anyone can become a member of the "Friends of the Kaibab Squirrel (FKS)" simply by joining and agreeing to be listed as a member. The organization is unique in that it has no dues, holds no membership meetings and has no political agenda other than a desire to assure perpetuation and long-term survival of the Kaibab Squirrel in its only know habitat, the Ponderosa pine forest-type north of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Our primary means of communication will be through the internet and email.

Friends of the Kaibab Squirrel, as a non-profit, independent organization, wishes to be supportive of Federal and State agencies that have responsibility for the squirrel and its habitat, namely the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service. We have no desire to see the Kaibab Squirrel classified under the Endangered Species Act which could limit those agencies ability to carry out their responsibilities in animal and land management. At the same time the organization will attempt to monitor the squirrel's population and habitat status so as to be in a position to make recommendations concerning habitat needs and predation concerns. A substantial membership number should add strength to the impact of such recommendations.
